More snakes and some furniture making...

Got back from dropping Kasey at school this morning, and found another snake on the verandah. This time a black one...just sitting there with its' head up looking over at where the dogs and chooks are. It took off fairly quickly, but it slithered up underneath the corrugated iron on the side wall of the shed... Damian is going to need to seal that off when he gets home, they can't go far, but I don't want them getting in there at all. They are quite noisy when slithering on the concrete, you can hear their skin skimming on the surface. I was much calmer with this one, because I saw it before I got to the concrete so I was able to stop a few metres away from it and watch what it did. I bet when Damian gets home we don't see any!
I decided to stay home yesterday and build the little table for the sofa. I saw the idea on Holly's blog for a "c" table, and totally loved it, and thought "I could make that"...so I did. Was only a couple of hours work including the painting and I L.O.V.E it....

I have washing to do today, our machine has been playing up since we moved, I think something has either broken or isn't sitting right after transporting it up here. It causes it to continually go off balance during the spin, annoying, but I am working around it. Then I might make some more stuff, got the wood working bug a little bit now....

Baby bird

I just found a baby bird in the greenhouse. Lucky I found it before the dogs did. I have no idea what sort of bird it is though, it just seems just a little too young to be able to fly yet, but is uninjured. I rang Australia Zoo and they suggested I put it up in a tree out of harms way, as the parents will normally be around watching it. So I did that, and some mynah birds were feeding it and looking after it, so I have just left them to it, as all seems well. One of the mynah birds had the telltale yellow on it's beak, and the other one didn't, it looked like a grown up version of the baby.

The birds are singing....

This time every year, this tree is covered in beautiful red flowers and the parrots come in for the nectar...lovely

What is that creeping around in the meter box???

I wandered down to the gate this afternoon, quite late, to take the bins down for collection tonight. On the way back I checked the meter box, to see if the gate lights had flicked off at the circuit breaker, as they haven't been coming on lately. A little gecko ran along the meters, and out of the corner of my eye I saw something else moving, and assuming it was another gecko I ignored it. Something made me look a little closer, only to see a black snake slithering it's way back in behind the meter box board.....eewww.... made me shiver. Damian says it is more scared of me than I am of it....he definitely underestimates just how terrified I am of snakes.  Why do I always seem to find them, not him??

The snake returns.....

I have had a busy day today. I had to go over to the southside today to pick up the wedding flowers that I need to prep tomorrow, as they could not deliver in time, due to the large amount of demand over Mothers Day, it has taken a few days for supplies to start to be replenished, so they could not supply until today, meaning I wouldn't have gotten the flowers until tomorrow, which is too late for preparation. After this I went to Spotlight and purchased some tulle, satin and organza so I can make some flowers for scrapbooking. I then went to officeworks and had some photos printed, then to the supermarket. By the time all of this was unpacked when I got home, it was getting quite late. I had time to wash the car, then get dinner ready, and then I have packed up my scrapbooking supplies and clothes ready for the scrapbooking retreat this weekend, which I leave for tomorrow afternoon (late)  When I got home this afternoon, I found the black snake that was here a few weeks ago dead on the verandah - Max has obviously had a go at it and killed it - they really do creep me out....I am really scared of snakes...I knew it was going to still be hanging around here somewhere...

I have been keeping a really close eye on Max to ensure that he wasn't bitten, he seems totally fine, is still as crazy as ever, has eaten all of his dinner etc...so I hope everything is going to be fine there....I don't even know if this is a venomous snake or not, hopefully it wasn't....I do feel sorry for it, every living thing has it's purpose, but just not at my backdoor!

Snakes in the grass!

Today I went to the Husqvarna day at the local sewing centre. We are constructing a pieced cushion, using different feet and sewing techniques on each piece of the cushion. I am up to piecing it all together now, and then the cushion can be constructed

(Photos to come)

Toni picked Kasey up from school for me as she is home still recovering from her surgery. She is really good now, just not allowed to do anything strenuous for the next few days, but otherwise she is completely fine. I have done some washing, and tonight when I was going to hang it out, there was a little black snake on the back verandah, it was probably only about 60cm or so long, but I really don't like snakes, but it disappeared before Damian could get the shovel... it's only going to get bigger, I hope it has moved on, but I have a bad feeling that it hasn't. :(

Tonight I have made some honeycomb easter eggs. They are so easy to make, and cost about $2 each to make, they are the same size as the ones Darrell Lea sell for $11.95, so a big saving. I will be making some rocky road ones tomorrow.

These are my egg moulds.

First I roughly cut up the honeycomb pieces, then I melted a complete block of chocolate (Aldi brand) in the microwave for a minute and a half, then stirred the honeycomb through the chocolate.

Then I spoon into the mould, I spray it with cooking spray first.

This is the finished result, ready for pretty packaging, to give to family and friends. Rocky road ones are next on the agenda.

What's with the dead possums??

I have found another dead possum in the yard this morning. This is the 2nd one in the last week and a half I have found. We have been here for 18 years and I have never had a dead possum, and now 2 in 2 weeks??? I don't know what's going on. This one had been dead for a little while.... it was not pleasant...they have definitely been poisoned, with ratsak I would say... you can tell when they have been poisoned, as they always have a little hole in their tummy..... the poor little things...they are so cute.... we have ratsak in our shed, but it is in a sealed rat trap and wildlife and dogs, cats etc can't access it, so I think a neighbour has had some ratsak around. I just wonder why I always find them when Damian isn't home to be the one who has to pick them up and wrap them up in paper....just my luck.... I know people get annoyed when they have a possum in their roof, I just wish they would build them a possum nest in a tree, instead of poisoning them....so sad.....
